If someone makes derogatory pictures or even films about Jesus, they are condemned by Christians. This has happened in response to several movies. Condemnations, protests, calls for boycotts, are one thing. But I do not remember any of the film directors being concerned that their head would be cut-off – literally.
Some quotes from today:
“‘Whoever defames our prophet should be executed,’ said Ismail Hassan, 37, a tailor who marched through the pouring rain along with hundreds of others in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
‘Bin Laden our beloved, Denmark must be blown up,’ protesters in Ramallah chanted.
In mosques throughout Palestinian cities, clerics condemned the cartoons. An imam at the Omari Mosque in Gaza City told 9,000 worshippers that those behind the drawings should have their heads cut off.”
Is this what Muhammad wanted – death and violence to anyone who does not follow Muslim beliefs, or denigrates the religioun? Zero tolerance towards others? Calls for death and violence? Would he be proud that news stories about terrorists anywhere are invariably also news stories about Muslims?
Perhaps to many in the Middle East the West appears to be uncaring, indifferent to Islam, more concerned with profits. But to many Westerners those in the Middle East appear to the raving, lunatic murderers. It is a problem trying to find middle ground or reconciliation when one side has no tolerance and proudly strives to murder and maim. What the west calls “radical” Islam appears to becoming “normal” Islam. Unless that is reversed conflict and terrorism will most likely increase.
