Modern capitalism and economics operates by minimizing costs and production time for the purpose of creating the most minimum product possible at the greatest profit margin.
That’s why products keep getting worse and worse.
Amazon thought it was “solving problems” by striving for the lowest price, fast delivery, and eliminating the margins of many businesses. Think of Bezos statement “your margin is my opportunity” – but it isn’t the opportunity to provide a better product to consumers. Minimizing costs and faster delivery can provide benefits, but the benefits are not product focused. Indeed, they run counter to creating a great product.
The result is massive enshittification of products and services, to borrow a phrase referring to when a digital platform becomes worse for users over time to increase profits.
Pay less now.
But pay more over time as bad products with shorter lifespans need to be replaced.
Brilliant capitalism!
Companies offering maximum consumer benefit, regardless of cost and time, are few.
